Product Introduction
Dissolved Air Flotation System for Wastewater Treatment
Dissolved Air Flotation Equipment

Dissolved Air Flotation is a water treatment process that clarifies wastewaters (or other waters) by the removal of suspended matter such as oil or solids.

The removal is achieved by dissolving air in the water or wastewater under pressure and then releasing the air at atmospheric pressure in a flotation tank basin. The released air forms tiny bubbles which adhere to the suspended matter causing the suspended matter to float to the surface of the water where it may then be removed by a skimming device.

Work Process
DAF Work Process Diagram

The wastewater enters RT1 (coagulation reaction tank) and RT2 (flocculation reaction tank) from the equalization tank through the lift pump, and coagulates with PAC and flocculates with PAM respectively to form flocs.

Then the wastewater and dissolved water enter the reaction zone of the DAF tank, and the microbubbles and flocs in the dissolved water are mixed and adhered to form solid particles with a density less than water, floating up to the surface. Scum is scraped to the slag tank, and clean water is collected through the water collecting pipe.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the primary function of a DAF system?
The Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) system is designed to clarify wastewater by removing suspended solids, oils, and greases through the use of micro-bubbles that float particles to the surface for removal.
How does the micro-bubble generation improve treatment?
Tiny bubbles provide a larger surface area to attach to flocs and solid particles. Because these bubbles are extremely small, they ensure a stable floating process and higher removal efficiency compared to traditional sedimentation.
Can the system handle high oil and grease content?
Yes, DAF systems are particularly effective for wastewater from slaughterhouses, food processing, and car washes where oil, grease, and fat (FOG) levels are high.
Is the slagging process manual or automatic?
The system features an automatic slagging device controlled by the liquid level, ensuring consistent removal of surface scum without constant manual intervention.
What information is needed to size a DAF unit?
Key factors include the total flow rate (m³/hr), the concentration of suspended solids (SS), oil and grease content, and the pH, COD, and BOD levels of the influent wastewater.
What materials are used for construction to prevent corrosion?
The material is selected based on the wastewater characteristics. For corrosive environments (low or high pH), special coatings or stainless steel materials are considered during the design phase.
